INTERNATIONAL TRADE LAW, ANTITRUST LAW AND TRADE
REGULATION
The Mexican government continues to revise
its laws governing foreign trade in order to establish procedures that
are consistent with the World Trade Organization (WTO).
To a large extent, Mexico has reduced
its protective barriers in accordance with its declared policy to be a
participant in the international economic community. As a consequence,
with NAFTA already in force, it has negotiated further trade agreements
with Central and South American countries, the European Union and Pacific
Basin countries.
The government has been vigilant in battling
unfair trade practices, such as dumping and subsidizing, and in establishing
compensatory quotas. We alert and represent foreign clients to unfair
practices in which they are involved and assist domestic companies in
combating such unfair practices as well as in other aspects of international
trade activities, also keeping in mind that Mexico is now actively applying
its competition law both in monopolistic practices and concentrations.
