On the Maritime Practice Group
The Maritime Practice Group is dedicated to the handling of matters related to all types of vessels and naval artifacts, as well as their owners, charterers, operators, crew members, shippers, hull & machinery insurers and P&I clubs, and in general all facets in a maritime venture. GRA has handled all type of maritime matters in the last 70 years. The formation of the Maritime Practice Group aims to concentrate the practice of the whole firm in one specialized group, assisted by its other departments.
The range of services extends from the negotiation of charterparties, to the financing and registration of vessels, the execution of maritime mortgages, legal assistance for maritime accidents and salvage operations, disputes concerning maritime and multimodal transportation, maritime insurance litigation and maritime arbitration among many others.
Due to the importance of Mexican off-shore activities, the Maritime Practice Group also has the mission to provide complete assistance to the marine contractors of PEMEX, the state owned oil company of Mexico, concerning contracts related to vessels, naval artifacts and oil rigs that are used in operations related with the exploration and exploitation of oil.
GRA, being a full service law firm, through its departments of Tax Law, Credit and Project Financing Law, Environmental Law, Administrative Law, Litigation, Labor Law, Intellectual Property Law, Immigration Law and Corporate Law, is able to provide complete legal services to its maritime clients.
Among the clients of the firm’s Maritime Practice Group there are shipping lines, charterers of tramp vessels, salvage companies, dredging companies, shipyards, shippers of bulk cargoes, terminal operators, as well as marine contractors engaged in the development of oil fields, operators of dynamic positioning oil rigs, operators of supply vessels, companies engaged in pipe laying, companies specialized in LNG operations and many others.
About the members of the Maritime Practice Group
The Maritime Practice Group –coordinated by David Enriquez– is comprised of four attorneys with a high level of knowledge and complementary experience in the industry. Its members belong to some of the most relevant professional associations on the subject and keep permanent contact with specialized firms worldwide.

Admitted to practice in Mexico and France. During his vast experience, he has participated widely, among other areas, in the planning and implementation of financing mechanisms for the maritime industry.
Ricardo Lan (rlan@goodrichriquelme.com). Partner. Universidad Iberoamericana (LL.B); TulaneUniversityLawSchool (LL.M. in International and Financial Law). Admitted to practice in Mexico and Louisiana, U.S.A. His experience has focused in assisting multimodal transport operators and maritime terminals.

University of Southampton, UK (LL.M. in Maritime Law) Universidad Panamericana (Ph.D. in Maritime Law). Admitted to practice in Mexico. In addition to his experience assisting clients in the maritime and oil industries, he has represented Mexico in connection with maritime matters before IMO, IOPC, UNCITRAL, OECD, WTO and ILO. He also acted as General Counselor of the Drafting Committee on the 2006 Navigation and Coastal Trade Act in the Lower House of Congress. He is a lecturer and author on Maritime Law.
Carlos Morán (cmoran@goodrichriquelme.com). Associate. In addition to his experience in the planning of corporate schemes for shipping and port services companies, he has been involved in the handling of maritime claims and salvage operations, such as the salvage of the M/V “APL Panama” grounded off Ensenada, Mexico in 2005.
